The European Accessibility Act (EAA) was transposed into national law in July 2021 with the Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz (BFSG). The Ordinance to the Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz (BFSGV) was adopted on 15 June 2022 and defines accessibility requirements for products and services that are placed on the market or provided to consumers after 28 June 2025. This includes all online retail, hardware and software, as well as interregional passenger transport and banking services.
The accessibility requirements for products and services are regulated by the BFSG ordinance. The state of the art must be taken into account when fulfilling the requirements. Specific requirements are derived from various norms and standards that are published by the Federal Accessibility Agency. Presumption of conformity applies on the basis of harmonised standards and technical specifications.
The services of the GC Wizard websites do not comply with Section 1 BFSG “Purpose and scope of application” and are therefore exempt from the requirements of the BFSG.
Nevertheless, the GC Wizard websites are regularly checked with the WAVE Web Accessibility Evaluation Tools – https://wave.webaim.org/ – and the given results are implemented as far as the WordPress theme used allows.
