The UIC Wagon Code enables freight and passenger wagons to be uniquely identified and contains important key data for rail traffic.
A complete wagon code consists of twelve digits, the individual digits of the wagon code have the following meaning:
- first and second digit code for the interchange procedure, for traction units type code
- third and fourth digits UIC country code
- fifth to eighth digit Class codes
- Ninth to eleventh digit Serial number (consecutive number of a type)
- twelfth digit Check digit
