13 What is Whirlpool?

Whirlpool (hash function) – Wikipedia

Whirlpool was designed by Vincent Rjimen and Paulo S. L. Barreto. The hash has a length of 512 bits.

Whirlpool may be used free of charge for any purpose. The reference implementation is public domain.

So far, no weaknesses of the algorithm are known, although this must be put into perspective since it has been little studied so far.

Whirlpool is one of the cryptographic algorithms recommended by the European project NESSIE for the selection of cryptographic methods and was standardized by ISO with ISO/IEC 10118-3:2004.
