The factorial is in mathematics a function that assigns to a natural number the product of all natural numbers (without zero) less than and equal to this number.

It is abbreviated by an exclamation mark (“!”) following the argument. This notation was first used in 1808 by the French mathematician Christian Kramp, who also introduced the term faculté “ability” for it around 1798.
